Job summary

NYC Health + Hospitals' Queens Hospital Center is seeking a patient care assistant to support nursing staff, perform basic health screening, and assist in specimen collection and processing. Under supervision, you will handle vital signs, venipuncture, EKG, and prepare rooms and supplies for examinations.

You will also help educate patients and coordinate care across departments. The role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to ICARE values, and safety in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of phlebotomy and EKG training; may include related patient care programs.
• Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

• Check vital signs and record findings on patient charts.
• Collect specimens for laboratory testing (venipuncture) and prepare samples.
• Perform basic specimen screening and tests as directed.
• Assist with patient exams by providing supplies and preparing rooms.
• Provide patient and family health information and education.
• Operate ECG equipment and record heart activity.
• Escort patients and coordinate appointments when needed.
• Maintain unit inventory and assist in orientation of new staff.
