Job summary

UofL Health is seeking a unit clerk/clinical assistant to provide essential clerical support on the patient unit under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel. The role includes transcription of orders, chart preparation, patient data collection, and basic clinical support such as phlebotomy and EKG lead placement.

Responsibilities also cover communications with physicians, patients, families and co-workers, ensuring HIPAA compliance and maintaining accurate, organized records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a recognized Clinical Assistant, Medical Assistant or EMT training program or senior nursing student who completed Fundamentals of Nursing course (preferred).
• Certification as Basic Life Support (through AHA) is required.
• Current and in good standing with state licensing board or enrolled in accredited nursing program (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Transcribes and computes physician orders and messages accurately.
• Maintains and organizes patient medical records and charts.
• Sets up and disassembles admission/discharge charts with complete information.
• Handles desk communications and routes messages promptly.
• Collects specimens and performs point-of-care testing.
• Performs patient mobility, hygiene, and daily care tasks.
• Assists with admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
