Patient Care Assistant Med Surg-Medical 2 Unit-Part Time-Days

Overview

Responsibilities

1. Assist under supervision of Registered Nurse or Nurse Manager/Director in patient care and environment, including patients requiring special precautions.
2. Perform tasks within validated competency such as simple wound care, EKGs, peripheral IV removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting.
3. Provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating understanding of growth and development principles.
4. Promote a safe work environment, adhering to patient safety initiatives.
5. Use technology systems for patient data entry into EMR.
6. Follow care plans, performing treatments and procedures independently under RN supervision, including vital signs, ice application, compresses, blood draws, specimen collection, etc.
7. Complete clinical and quality documentation accurately and consistently.
8. Ensure availability of resources and maintain a clean, safe environment.
9. Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers efficiently under charge nurse direction.

Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (preferred)

Experience

• 1 year healthcare experience in a hospital setting (preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

• CPR/BLS Certification from AHA/ARC or equivalent (required upon hire, preferred)
• Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) from Virginia Department of Health Professions or equivalent (preferred). Alternative qualifications include EMT-B, Medical Assistant, or enrollment in LPN/RN programs with relevant hours.
