Works under the supervision of Registered Nurse/LPN and Nurse Manager/Director in the personal care of hospital patients and their environment (including those needing special precautions) and performs specified treatments. This position must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in the assigned unit. The individual must understand growth and development principles over the lifespan and provide care according to departmental policies and procedures. Promotes and maintains a safe work environment for staff and patients, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.

What you will do

• Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of technology systems necessary for patient data collection.
• Ensure the availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) to promote positive patient outcomes. Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning workstations/areas, equipment, stocking supplies, and proper storage of equipment.
• Follow the plan of care to perform treatments and procedures competently and independently under the direction of RN/LPN. Procedures may include enemas, vital signs, ice application, compresses, perineal care, rectal tube, sitz bath, unsterile sites, strain urine for stones, specimen collection, etc., depending on unit/facility competency requirements.
• Adhere to the plan of care to ensure patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care within legal standards, respecting patient privacy and values. Provide care based on verbal and written instructions, demonstrating understanding of assigned plans within the scope of practice, and accurately document all required information.
• Participate positively in training and supporting team members, volunteers, and students as needed.

Qualifications

Experience

• At least 1 year of prior experience in an acute healthcare setting (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

• Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) upon hire (Required)
• CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) upon hire (Required)
• Alternatively, CPR/BLS Instructor certification from AHA/ARC upon hire (Required)
