Job summary

IU Health is seeking a Patient Care Assistant for Med Surg 2 in Avon, Indiana. You will work closely with nurses to provide compassionate care and support patients across their hospital stay.

The unit handles orthopedic, urology, OB/GYN, and general surgery patients, offering a fast-paced team environment focused on safe, high‑quality recovery. Shifts include 12-hour days or nights with weekend rotation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• CPR is required through quarterly RQI training.
• Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience
• Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty
• Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology
• Requires knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities
• Requires knowledge of infection control
• Requires basic computer skills

Responsibilities

• Partner with nurses and other healthcare team members to deliver exceptional patient care.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including mobility, bathing, grooming, and toileting.
• Obtain and report vital signs and other patient observations.
• Perform phlebotomy and other approved patient care tasks.
• Support patient safety initiatives and infection prevention practices.
• Document patient care activities accurately and timely.
• Collaborate with RNs, LPNs, Charge Nurses, and Unit Secretaries to ensure excellent patient outcomes.
• Monitor patient responses to interventions and communicate concerns to the healthcare team.
