Responsibilities

Performs routine tasks to support safe, effective, and cost-efficient patient care as delegated by the RN. Assists in transporting, transferring, lifting, and performs cleaning functions in patient care units. Performs selected diagnostic tests.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care as delegated by RN
• Monitors and records vital signs
• Assists with personal hygiene and physical care needs
• Accurately measures, records, and reports intake and output
• Obtains and records daily weight
• Performs blood glucose testing using blood glucose meter
• Reports changes in patient’s status promptly to RN
• Acts as sitter or patient care companion when needed
• Assists in admission, transfer, and discharge processes
• Performs unit housekeeping needs
• Delivers specimens, picks up medications and other items
• Acts as receptionist for the unit; uses hospital information systems as per policy

Additional duties include checking refrigerator temperatures, updating bed status, answering call lights and phones, maintaining patient environment, performing comfort rounds, and ensuring safety and cleanliness.

Communicates professionally with patients’ families, physicians, and staff. Performs phlebotomy and 12-lead EKGs as permitted, and removes saline locks.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, and Certifications

• HS diploma/GED
• BLS certification
• 1 year of direct patient care experience or graduation from an accredited nursing program

Required Skills and Abilities

• Good written and oral communication skills
