Transplant and LVAD Overflow Patient Care Assistant II

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of routine tasks to support the delivery of safe, effective, and cost-efficient patient care as delegated by the RN. Responsibilities include assisting in transporting, transferring, lifting, performing cleaning functions in patient care units, and conducting selected diagnostic tests.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities
  • Provides direct patient care as delegated by RN staff
  • Monitors and records vital signs
  • Assists with personal hygiene and physical care needs
  • Accurately measures, records, and reports intake and output
  • Obtains and records daily weight
  • Performs blood glucose testing using blood glucose meter
  • Reports changes in patient’s status promptly to RN
  • Acts as a sitter or patient care companion when needed
  • Assists in admission, transfer, and discharge processes
  • Performs unit housekeeping needs
  • Delivers specimens, picks up medications and other items
  • Acts as receptionist for the unit; has limited use of hospital information systems according to hospital policy, dependent on unit needs
  • Checks and documents refrigerator temperatures, reports variances
  • Updates bed status, answers call lights and telephones
  • Keeps patient environment clean, performs comfort rounds, reports safety issues and broken equipment, adheres to safety precautions
  • Communicates with patients’ families, physicians, and staff professionally
  • Performs phlebotomy and 12-lead EKGs as permitted
  • Removes saline locks
Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, and Certifications: HS diploma/GED, BLS, 1 year of direct patient care experience or graduation from an accredited nursing school.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training: Good communication skills, completion of PCA II orientation/training.

Pay Range

$14.82 - $20.38 per hour
