Job Overview

The Transplant and LVAD Overflow Patient Care Assistant II provides routine patient support under RN supervision, including assistance with transport, transfers, and lifting. They perform cleaning functions in patient care units, assist with diagnostic tests, and support patient safety and comfort.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care delegated by RN
  • Monitor and record vital signs
  • Assist with personal hygiene and physical care
  • Measure, record, and report intake/output
  • Record daily weight and perform blood glucose testing
  • Report patient status changes promptly
  • Act as a sitter or patient care companion as needed
  • Assist with admission, transfer, discharge processes
  • Perform unit housekeeping and deliver specimens or medications
  • Operate as a receptionist and use hospital information systems within policy
  • Check and document refrigerator temperatures, update bed status, answer call lights and phones
  • Maintain a clean patient environment, perform comfort rounds, and ensure safety
  • Communicate professionally with patients, families, physicians, and staff
  • Perform phlebotomy and 12-lead EKGs as permitted
  • Remove saline locks
Qualifications
  • High School diploma/GED
  • BLS certification
  • At least 1 year of direct patient care experience or graduation from an accredited nursing program
  • Good communication skills
  • Completion of PCA II orientation/training
