Job Summary

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Patient Care Assistant (PCA) assists with the needs of the unit, patient, and family. The PCA role supports, supplements, and/or complements patient care provided by licensed nursing staff in acute care units by maintaining supplies, equipment, and the unit environment, performing clerical functions, and assisting RNs in specific direct patient care tasks.

Salary and Benefits

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range depends on factors including work experience and internal equity. For union-represented positions, placement is guided by the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range is $30.51 - $38.15 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or successful completion of GED.
• One year of hospital-related patient care experience.
• Skills & Abilities: Medical terminology, computer skills, strong verbal communication. Ability to work independently or in a team. Problem-solving and prioritization skills preferred. Bilingual in Spanish or Southeast Asian languages preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Sit: Up to 3 hours/day
• Stand/Walk: 6-8 hours
• Bend/Stoop: Up to 3 hours
• Reach: Up to 6 hours
• Repetitive use of UE/Grasp: Up to 6 hrs
• Lift/Push/Pull: 25 lbs, over 25 lbs with assistance or equipment
• Ability to hear alarms and instructions, see from 20 inches to 20 ft. Reasonable accommodations available.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Nursing Assistant
• Previous PCA/Nursing Assistant experience in acute care
• Current nursing student with completed Medical Surgical rotation
• Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to the role

Licenses and Certifications

• Medical Assistant Certification, CNA Certification, or post-high school medical training
• Current BLS-C from American Heart Association
