Job summary

Virginia Cancer Specialists in Old Town Alexandria is seeking an experienced full-time Patient Benefit Specialist to join our medical office.

In this role you will verify insurance and eligibility, obtain pre-authorizations, counsel patients on benefits and co-payments, assist with financial aid applications, collect payments when required, and ensure accurate documentation while protecting patient confidentiality and complying with policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum three years of medical business office experience with insurance procedures and patient interaction.

Responsibilities

• Verify insurance, demographic, and eligibility data accurately.
• Obtain initial and subsequent pre-authorizations for services.
• Re-verify benefits and obtain authorization after treatment plan; ensure necessary signatures.
• Use the Summary of Patient Reimbursement and Liability form and obtain necessary approvals.
• Perform financial counseling on patient obligations, billing practices, and payment arrangements.
• Assist patients in obtaining financial assistance and completing forms.
• Collect co-pays, deductibles, and other out-of-pocket amounts at visit.
• Maintain manuals, logs, and other required documentation.
• Protect patient confidentiality and comply with policies.
• Support front-office functions as needed.
