Job summary

Virginia Oncology Associates in Norfolk is seeking a Patient Benefits Representative to support our Norfolk location. This full-time role requires experience in pre-services coordination and patient benefits, with travel between Brock and Princess Anne office locations for Radiation and Medical Oncology sites.

The position involves educating patients on insurance coverage and financial arrangements, submitting cost estimates, and ensuring accurate entry of co-pays and demographics.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum three (3) years pre-services coordinator experience required and two (2) years of patient benefits experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CPT coding and HCPCS coding application.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain insurance coverage information and demographics; educate patient on coverage, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses before treatment.
  • Assess patients' ability to meet expenses and discuss payment arrangements; inform about financial assistance programs as applicable.
  • Complete Patient Cost Estimate forms and forward to billing with all relevant documentation for patient approval.
  • Ensure patient co-pay is correctly entered into the system or communicated to the patient.
  • Verify and update demographics and coverage in the system per SOPs.
  • Stay current on available financial aide; build relationships with providers of financial assistance.
