UPMC Horizon-Greenville is currently hiring a full-time Patient Associate (Phlebotomist) to support our Outpatient Center. This position works primarily from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with every other Saturday from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and has no on-call or holiday responsibilities. Travel to Hermitage Specialty Care and UPMC-Shenango Valley Outpatient Centers is required.
Candidates with registration and phlebotomy education or experience are encouraged to apply!
Responsibilities:
- Utilize spare time to benefit the unit, patients, and co-workers.
- Contribute to the efficient operation and management of the department.
- Obtain signatures from patients or family members for consent to treatment and financial responsibility, following HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Present oneself professionally in attire and etiquette.
- Demonstrate cost consciousness through efficient use of resources.
- Instruct patients on collection procedures for laboratory specimens.
- Establish and maintain good rapport with medical staff, co-workers, supervisors, and others.
- Exhibit integrity, courtesy, and respect for others.
- Maintain confidentiality of hospital and department information.
- Follow established policies, procedures, and protocols to positively affect patient outcomes.
- Perform and document EKGs.
- Procure specimens via venipuncture, swab, heel stick, and fingerstick, following proper procedures and patient identification protocols.
- Maintain effective communication internally and externally.
- Process laboratory specimens, requisitions, and orders from internal and external facilities.
- Participate in collecting and communicating data about patients' health status.
- Provide directions within the facility.
- Promote the hospital's image and maintain a positive attitude toward staff, physicians, visitors, and the community.
- Perform test ordering, charging, patient registration, and billing tasks accurately.
- Record patient payments at the time of service.
