Job description

Job Title: Patient Associate (Phlebotomist) - UPMC Horizon – Shenango Valley Outpatient Center

The UPMC Horizon – Shenango Valley Outpatient Center is hiring two (2) Patient Associates (Phlebotomists) to join the Outpatient Center Team. These roles are flex full-time positions with varying shifts starting between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM. The roles include rotating Saturdays from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM. No on-call or holiday responsibilities are required.

Travel to Hermitage Specialty Care and the UPMC Horizon – Greenville Outpatient Center may be necessary as needed.

Candidates with phlebotomy education or experience are encouraged to apply.

Purpose:

Perform patient registration and conduct designated ancillary testing.

Responsibilities:
  1. Utilize spare time effectively to benefit the unit, patients, and co-workers.
  2. Contribute to the efficient operation and management of the department.
  3. Obtain signatures from patients or family members for consent to treatment and financial responsibility, following HIPAA regulations.
  4. Present oneself professionally in attire and etiquette.
  5. Demonstrate cost consciousness by efficiently using time, materials, staff, equipment, supplies, and resources.
  6. Instruct patients on collection procedures for laboratory specimens they will obtain themselves.
  7. Establish and maintain good rapport and cooperation with medical staff, co-workers, supervisors, and others.
  8. Exhibit integrity, courtesy, and respect for others.
  9. Maintain confidentiality of hospital and department information without infractions.
  10. Follow established policies, procedures, and protocols to positively impact patient outcomes.
  11. Perform and document EKGs accurately.
  12. Procure appropriate specimens via venipuncture, swab, heel stick, and fingerstick, following proper procedures including patient identification.
  13. Maintain professional, pleasant, and effective communication internally and externally.
  14. Procure and process laboratory specimens, requisitions, and orders from internal and external facilities.
  15. Participate in collecting and communicating data regarding patients' health status across all ages.
  16. Provide directions within the facility as needed.
  17. Promote the hospital's image and maintain a positive, helpful attitude toward employees, physicians, visitors, and the community.
  18. Perform test ordering, billing, patient registration, and daily work related to billing accurately.
  19. Collect and record patient payments at the time of service.
