Job summary

Albany ENT & Allergy Services P C is seeking a Patient Accounts Representative to manage patient billing, payments, and self-pay encounters in a fast-paced office. You will serve as the main contact for patients about their accounts, coordinate with providers, and ensure accuracy in posting payments.

Daily duties include balancing cash and checks, posting payments, generating statements, creating payment plans, handling refunds, and reconciling front desk cash.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED and relevant billing experience.
• Experience with medical terminology and patient communication is essential.
• Strong attention to detail, problem solving, and professional demeanor required.

Responsibilities

• Balance cash and checks daily and deposit electronically.
• Process SLIT/self-pay payments for Allergy Department.
• Post patient payments from mail and portal; generate statements.
• Create and modify payment plans according to practice criteria.
• Manage account credits and refunds and respond to patient inquiries.
• Contact patients about overdue balances via email, mail, or phone.
• Apply payments to correct charges and ensure proper insurance on claims.

Description

The Patient Accounts Representative is the primary contact with patients regarding their accounts with the practice. This includes managing patient payments, payment plans and self-pay encounters. The Patient Accounts representative is also the primary liaison with the Allergy Department for immunotherapy billing policy compliance with respect to vials as well as payments for self-pay allergy therapy. The patient accounts representative will also be a resource for the hearing aid program by handling phone calls and payments related to these charges. The patient accounts representative is also responsible for balancing the patient monies accepted by the front desk daily.

This is a full-time position and onsite.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Responsible for daily balancing of cash and checks from patient encounters and electronically depositing these into the bank.
• Primary person to take SLIT (self-pay) payments for the Allergy Department.
• Payment posting for patient payments received through the mail.
• Generate account statements for patients; answer patient questions regarding their account.
• Create payment plans for patients based on practice criteria.
• Manage patient account credits and refunds.
• Contact patients through email, written correspondence, and phone to inform them of overdue balances.
• Posting unapplied payments to the patient charges.
• Utilizing reports to ensure the correct insurance is on the claim prior to processing.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous medical billing experience and familiarity with medical terminology
• Consistent professional conduct, meticulous attention to detail, and critical thinking skills and a positive attitude are essential.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required as well as interpersonal skills with patients, providers, and other healthcare professionals.
• Problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies
• Proficient computer skills including ability to master the EHR and practice management software; Experience with NextGen preferred.

Compensation

The compensation range for this position is $18 to $23. Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, education, experience, and qualifications.
