The Patient Accounts Representative I is responsible for follow-up functions and timely resolution of assigned accounts under general supervision. The incumbent may also be responsible for claim submission depending on their assigned accounts.
1. Ensure timely resolution and collection of assigned account balances utilizing Patient Accounting software.2. Ensure timely submission/transmission of claims and verification of claim acceptance where appropriate for assigned account balances.3. Complete daily payment activity reports for assigned account balances.4. Identify reoccurring problems or issues for assigned account balances that delay or impact reimbursement.5. Interact effectively with management/peers/internal parties/and external parties to resolve a diverse range of problems encountered in the life cycle of a claim.6. Perform general accounting transactions via completion of adjustment forms, charge correction forms, and payment transfer forms.7. Update and maintain denial reports and flags in accordance with departmental requirements.8. Record complete and meaningful account documentation.9. Review and process correspondence requests for assigned account balances.10. Change the financial class to patient liability after determining that all insurance has been processed and paid appropriately.
EDUCATION:• High school diploma or equivalent required. • Associate’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related discipline preferred.
EXPERIENCE:Previous experience in hospital/physician office, patient accounts, or related setting required.
