The Patient Account Representative is responsible for working accounts to ensure they are resolved in a timely manner. This candidate should have a solid understanding of the Revenue Cycle as it relates to the entire life of a patient account from creation to payment. The role involves following up on claim submissions, reviewing remittances for insurance collections, and pursuing disputed balances from government and non-government entities. Basic knowledge of Commercial, Managed Care, Medicare, and Medicaid insurance is preferable. Success in this role requires working as part of a dynamic team and the ability to adapt in an environment where work assignments may change frequently, all while resolving accounts with minimal assistance.

Key Responsibilities

• Interact professionally with insurance plans, patients, physicians, attorneys, and team members.
• Navigate various system applications and payer websites to resolve accounts.
• Document all actions clearly in the patient accounting system.
• Maintain productivity and quality standards while meeting departmental goals.
• Identify, communicate, and escalate issues affecting account resolution or workflow.
• Support team members as needed to ensure continuous workflow.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Research accounts, contact third-party payors or patients, and resolve uncollected balances.
• Update account information, review contracts, and handle billing discrepancies.
• Perform special projects and communicate findings.
• Recognize delays or trends with payors and respond proactively.
• Participate in training and meetings to enhance job knowledge.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
• 1-4 years of medical claims or hospital collections experience.
• Typing speed of at least 45 wpm.
