Job summary

Intermountain Health is seeking a Healthcare Billing Specialist to support patient accounts through accurate cash posting, payments balancing, and timely EOB interpretation.

The role requires strong attention to detail, familiarity with CPT/ICD-10 codes, and the ability to resolve denials via coordination with payers. Flexible work options exist where approved, with potential interviews via Teams.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year of full cycle medical billing experience.
  • Minimum of six months in a healthcare cash posting role.
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and modifiers required.
  • Ability to read and understand EOBs or interpret denials required.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles such as debits/credits required.
  • Experience with insurance claim appeals required.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with electronic remittances required.

Responsibilities

  • Identify appropriate payment details and save back-up as appropriate.
  • Balance payments to deposits in systems and applications.
  • Post all payments to patient accounts using electronic and manual posting systems.
  • Research, validate and adjust payment postings.
  • Follow up per procedures to achieve account resolution.
  • Post correspondence, zero payments and denials to patient accounts.
  • Research missing information such as EOBs or denials and contact payers for details.
  • Complete more difficult assignments and assist teammates with balancing issues.
  • Escalate issues and trends to leadership.
  • Meet productivity and quality goals.
  • Collaborate with other teams across the organization.
  • Participate in meetings and educational requirements.
  • Promote Intermountain Health mission, values, and service standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions
  • Identify appropriate payment details and save back-up as appropriate.
  • Balance payments to deposits in systems and applications.
  • Post all payments to patient accounts, using both electronic and manual posting systems
  • Research, validate and make adjustments to payment postings.
  • Follow up in accordance to procedures and policies with an overall goal of account resolution
  • Post correspondence, zero payments, denials and any other additional items received from insurance to patient accounts
  • Research and follow-up on missing information, such as EOB and insurance remittances. Contact payers as necessary to obtain detailed info in regard to payments
  • Complete more difficult assignments, and assist teammates with balancing issues
  • Escalate issues and trends to leadership
  • Meet department's productivity and quality goals
  • Collaborate with other teams across the organization
  • Participate in meetings and educational requirements
