Job Overview

The Patient Access Supervisor manages and provides operational oversight to the department or business functions of assigned areas across multiple clinic or geographic locations to ensure efficient and effective operations. Responsibilities include supervision of reception, insurance verification, patient scheduling, registration, and co-pay/co-insurance collection.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises registration and scheduling staff, optimizing performance through workload coordination, staff reassignments, and providing feedback on expected outcomes and performance. Monitors and maintains performance improvement results, ensuring staff consistently meet patient service expectations.

Qualifications
  • Experience REQUIRED: At least 1 year of supervisory or management experience, 2 years of patient scheduling/registration experience in a healthcare setting, familiarity with medical terminology, insurance, managed care, computerized order entry, appointment scheduling, and medical coding. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and email/calendar applications.
  • Experience PREFERRED: Not specified.
Education
  • Required: Associate's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field, or an additional 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Preferred: Completion of healthcare-related courses such as medical terminology; Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, or related field from an accredited institution.
Additional Responsibilities

Supervises assigned staff and daily operations, delegates tasks, monitors workflow, and implements process improvements. Acts as liaison with other departments, addresses immediate issues, and manages areas in the absence of the Manager. Responsible for hiring, training, mentoring, performance evaluation, disciplinary actions, and managing staff schedules and leave requests.

Other Requirements

Flexibility to work off-shifts and weekends as needed; may be part of essential staffing. Handles medications and supplies as applicable. Serves diverse age groups as required.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Includes lifting less than 20 lbs, prolonged sitting, walking, strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, logical thinking, and adaptability to a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
