Job Overview

The Patient Access Supervisor manages and provides operational oversight to the department or business functions within assigned areas or multiple clinic/geographic locations. The role ensures efficient and effective operations, including tasks such as reception, insurance verification, patient scheduling, patient registration, and co-pay/co-insurance collection.

Supervision and Performance Management

The supervisor oversees registration and scheduling staff, optimizing performance through workload coordination, staff reassignment, and feedback on outcomes and performance. They monitor and maintain performance improvement results, ensuring staff consistently meet patient service expectations.

Minimum Requirements
  • Experience REQUIRED: At least one year of supervisory/management experience and two years of patient scheduling/registration experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance, HMO, managed care, GE/IDX, computerized order entry, appointment scheduling, and medical coding.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and email/calendaring at an intermediate level.
Education
  • Required: Associate's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field, or additional work experience in lieu of education.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Supervises staff, delegates work, evaluates performance, and manages daily operations.
  • Acts as liaison with other departments and implements process improvements.
  • Handles immediate issues in partnership with management.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Hires, trains, mentors staff, manages leave requests, evaluates performance, participates in disciplinary actions, and manages areas in the absence of the Manager.

Additional Requirements
  • Flexibility to work off-shifts and weekends based on operational needs.
  • May be part of essential staffing.
Physical and Mental Requirements

Includes lifting less than 20 lbs, prolonged sitting, walking, strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking, and adaptability to a fast-paced environment.
