Job summary

Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, WA is seeking a Patient Access Technician (PAT) to ensure accurate patient admissions and registrations. This intermediate clerical role leverages service orientation, good judgment and independent thinking in daily tasks.

You will handle inpatient admissions, verify eligibility, assist with financial screening and coordinate with the Financial Counselor as needed. The position offers day shifts in a 0.01 FTE schedule and a work environment focused on patient

Qualifications

  • The candidate must graduate from a health vocational program such as Patient Access, Medical Assistance, Medical Billing & Insurance.
  • One year of experience in admitting, health unit coordination, patient registration, customer service or billing duties is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • You will assure complete and accurate patient admissions/registrations according to policy, procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • You will obtain inpatient bed assignments and process inpatient admission, including arm banding, addressograph plate, and form completion.
  • You will pre-admit all scheduled inpatient, outpatients and ambulatory patients to facilitate a smooth admission/registration process.
  • You will obtain direct admit information and enter a reservation in the computer system to notify other areas.
  • You will conduct comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews to obtain demographic, insurance and/or third-party liability information.
  • You will perform eligibility verification and resolve discrepancies, determine the need for financial assistance and refer to Financial Counselor as needed.
