Job summary

MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup is seeking a Patient Access Technician to ensure accurate patient admissions and registrations. This intermediate clerical role emphasizes judgment, service orientation and independent work within a healthcare setting.

The position supports inpatient and outpatient processes, handles demographic and insurance data, and coordinates with the Financial Counselor when needed. Shift: Day, 10-hour shifts, FTE 0.01.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a health vocational program such as Patient Access, Medical Assistance Medical Billing & Insurance
• Or one year of experience in admitting, Health Unit Coordinator, patient registration, customer service or billing in healthcare setting

Responsibilities

• Assure complete and accurate patient admissions/registrations according to organization policy and procedures and regulatory requirements
• Obtain inpatient bed assignments and process inpatient admission, including arm banding, addressograph plate, and completion of necessary forms
• Pre-admit all scheduled inpatient, outpatients and ambulatory patients to facilitate a smooth and speedy admission/registration process
• Obtain direct admit information and enter a reservation in the computer system to notify other areas
• Complete comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews to obtain demographic insurance information
• Perform eligibility verification and resolve discrepancies; determine need for financial assistance and refer to Financial Counselor
