Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a part-time Patient Access Representative/HAIII to pre-register, pre-admit, and admit patients by phone or in person across Hillcrest, La Jolla, and East Campus Medical Centers. The role emphasizes accurate demographics, insurance interpretation, prior authorizations, and coordination with hospital departments to support timely reimbursement.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years in medical front office, strong customer service, and proficient MS Office skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) years of registration or medical front office experience.
• Thorough knowledge of third-party payers.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Proficient with MS Office applications (Excel, Word).
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Pre-registers, pre-admits, and admits patients by telephone and in person.
• Collect accurate demographic information and interpret complex insurance benefits.
• Obtain prior authorizations and patient estimates; manage cash collections.
• Coordinate with public assistance programs (Medi-Cal, CCS) and Medicare requirements.
• Collaborate with physicians, office personnel and hospital departments to ensure reimbursement.
• Interface with Utilization Review and Patient Business Services as needed.
