Job summary

Highmark Health seeks a patient access specialist to support scheduling, registration, and admitting functions at the bedside, verifying insurance and collecting demographics. You will collect data for timely billing and assist with regulatory paperwork, ensuring accurate registrations in the electronic health record during downtime and maintaining patient confidentiality.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; 1–3 months related experience or equivalent education/experience.
• Experience operating a PC and using software applications.
• Ability to work in a medical/financial services/customer service environment.

Responsibilities

• Conducts scheduling, registration, and admitting functions independently at bedside, validates patient demographics, verifies insurance information through payor contacts via telephone, online resources, or electronic verification systems.
• Obtains limited clinical data based on service required and collects data for timely, accurate bill submission (workers compensation and motor vehicle claims).
• Provides or obtains signatures on regulatory paperwork as required; identifies patient financial responsibilities and calculates estimates.
• Post payment transactions in the ADT system and performs daily reconciliation; maintains confidentiality and adheres to policies.
• Delivers a positive patient experience; responds to inquiries from patients and staff and supports teamwork in a high-acuity environment.
• Remains calm under stress, follows HIPAA and privacy policies, and completes mandatory training; performs other duties as assigned.
