Job summary

Maimonides Medical Center in New York is seeking a Patient Access Specialist I to join our full-time, permanent team. This role supports scheduling, registration, and billing processes in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree (preferred) or an associate degree, experience in hospital patient access or billing, and strong computer and data-entry skills. Shift includes weekends and overnight hours, with a 35-hour week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree strongly preferred or associate degree required.
• Successful completion of an approved course or program in hospital/physician billing or third-party insurance, computer science certificate strongly preferred or work-related experience may substituted.
• Previous experience in a Patient Access department or minimum of 6 months of billing or insurance registration experience in a hospital setting or suitable combination of education and experience.
• Clinical experience and/or knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred.
• Typing: 30 wpm (tested).
• Must pass basic math skills test.
• Must pass basic data entry skills test.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance verification.
• Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position; knowledge of a second language strongly preferred.
• Must be computer literate; ability to access and navigate internet applications.
