Inova Health’s Fairfax Hospital – Diagnostic Imaging seeks a Patient Access Specialist to join the team. This full-time role runs Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm, admitting/scheduling patients, performing insurance verifications, and providing financial counseling.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of patient access experience.
• Ability to verify insurance and counsel patients on financial matters.

Responsibilities

• Manages patient intake, registration and documentation; confirms authorizations and indexes documents.
• Prepares schedules, tracks records, and navigates multiple systems efficiently.
• Coordinates documentation and follows up on case-related tasks.
• Assesses coverage and initiates financial assistance.
• Applies payer rules, resolves issues and identifies contract limitations.
• Resolves patient inquiries and tracks follow-ups.
• Educates patients on kiosks and reports usage trends.
• Coordinates with departments to tailor messaging and support patients.
• Validates insurance and tracks referral status.
• Schedules specialty visits and coordinates preparation.
• Coordinates transport for special needs.
• Resolves chart issues and assists with release of information.
• Provides documentation to utilization review teams.

Fairfax Hospital - Diagnostic Imaging is looking for a dedicated Patient Access Specialist to join the team. This is full-time, Monday-Friday, scheduled hours 8:00am-4:30pm. As a Patient Access Specialist, you will adhere to Inova Health System's "Service Excellence" standards while admitting/scheduling patients, conducting insurance verifications and providing financial counseling.

Patient Access Specialist Job Responsibilities

• Patient Intake, Registration & Documentation: Manages complex cases, resolves errors,

• Administrative & Technology Operations: Prepares schedules, tracks records, and navigates
• multiple systems efficiently.
• Case Management Tasks: Coordinates documentation and follows up on case-related tasks.
• Financial Counseling: Assesses coverage and initiates financial assistance.
• Insurance & Contract Coordination: Applies payer-specific rules, resolves issues, and identifies
• contract limitations.
• Inquiries & Patient Concerns: Resolves moderate concerns and tracks follow-ups with patients.
• Kiosk: Educates patients and reports usage trends on kiosks.
• Patient Communication & Advocacy: Coordinates with departments, tailors messaging, and
• supports patients.
• Referrals: Validates insurance and tracks referral status.
• Scheduling: Schedules specialty visits and coordinates preparation.
• Transport: Coordinates special needs transport.
• Health Information Management (HIM) Coordination: Resolves minor chart issues and assists
• with release of information (ROI).
• Utilization Review Coordination: Provides documentation to utilization review (UR) teams.
• Can include other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High School or GED
• Experience: 1 year of patient access experience
