Responsibilities

  • Register inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency Department patients for services with high accuracy.
  • Collect, verify, and enter demographic, insurance, and financial information into hospital systems.
  • Scan and maintain required registration and financial documentation.
  • Obtain patient signatures for treatment and reimbursement forms.
  • Ensure patients are registered in the correct status and location with proper paperwork.
  • Answer and route telephone calls to appropriate departments.
  • Collect patient payments and copays and ensure accurate account posting.
  • Assist patients, visitors, and staff with information and directions.
  • Refer insurance and financial inquiries to the appropriate department.
  • Monitor alarms and notify appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of Emergency Department policies and procedures.

Patient Access Specialist (Full Time)

Under the supervision of the Patient Access Director, the Patient Access Specialist registers inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency Department patients for services, collects and verifies demographic, insurance, and financial information, obtains required signatures, and provides exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.

  • Register inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency Department patients with a minimum accuracy rate of 98%.
  • Collect, verify, and enter demographic, insurance, and financial information into hospital systems.
  • Scan and maintain required registration and financial documentation.
  • Obtain patient signatures for treatment and reimbursement forms.
  • Ensure patients are registered in the appropriate status and location and that required paperwork is distributed correctly.
  • Answer and route telephone calls to the appropriate departments.
  • Collect patient payments and copays and ensure accurate account posting.
  • Respond promptly to patient and visitor needs by providing assistance, directions, and information.
  • Refer insurance and financial inquiries to the appropriate department.
  • Monitor alarms and notify appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of Emergency Department policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One to two years of clerical, customer service, registration, medical office, or general office experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and active listening abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable and dependable with strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
