Addison Group is partnering with our healthcare client in Chattanooga, TN to hire a Patient Access Specialist who will serve as a first point of contact for patients during registration and scheduling.

The role requires verifying insurance, coordinating appointments, collecting copays, and ensuring HIPAA-compliant records using EMR/EHR systems. Prior experience with Epic or Cerner is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1-2 years of experience in patient registration, medical scheduling, or healthcare customer service.
• Experience verifying insurance coverage and obtaining prior authorizations.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare insurance processes.
• Experience using EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients in person and by phone with professional customer service.
• Coordinate new and existing patient appointments, including scheduling and confirmations.
• Complete patient registration and maintain accurate demographic and insurance information in the EMR.
• Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, referrals, and prior authorizations.
• Discuss financial responsibilities and collect payments as appropriate (copays, deductibles, balances).
• Ensure consent forms are obtained and documentation is complete before services.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to resolve scheduling or coverage issues.
• Maintain HIPAA-compliant records and use EMR/EHR systems to document patient information.
• Address patient questions and concerns professionally.

Job Description

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented professional to serve as one of the first points of contact for patients throughout the registration and appointment process. This individual will play an important role in ensuring patient information is accurate, insurance coverage is verified, and appointments are coordinated efficiently while delivering a positive patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome patients in person and by phone while providing professional and courteous customer service.
• Coordinate new and existing patient appointments, including scheduling, rescheduling, and appointment confirmations.
• Complete patient registration and maintain accurate demographic and insurance information within the electronic medical record.
• Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, referrals, and authorization requirements prior to scheduled services.
• Discuss patient financial responsibilities, including copays, deductibles, and outstanding balances, and collect payments as appropriate.
• Obtain required consent forms and ensure all patient documentation is complete before services are provided.
• Collaborate with clinical staff, providers, and insurance representatives to support efficient patient care and resolve scheduling or coverage issues.
• Maintain accurate records while adhering to HIPAA guidelines and organizational policies.
• Utilize EMR/EHR systems to document patient information and support daily registration activities.
• Address patient questions and concerns with professionalism while helping resolve registration and insurance-related issues.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in patient registration, medical scheduling, healthcare customer service, or a related role.
• Previous experience verifying insurance coverage and obtaining prior authorizations is required.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare insurance processes.
• Experience using electronic medical record systems such as Epic, Cerner, or similar platforms preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
• Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Associate degree or healthcare-related certification is a plus.
