Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a part-time patient registration specialist to pre-register patients for admission and outpatient services, verify insurance coverage, and arrange necessary authorizations. The role offers a varied schedule with travel between locations, typically Monday through Friday within 6a–5:30p.

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Accurate spelling and attention to detail required.
• Must be able to key 40 wpm.
• Knowledge of patient registration, insurance, and hospital billing preferred.
• Medical terminology knowledge and understanding of third party reimbursement preferred.
• Excellent communication skills and customer services skills required.

Responsibilities

• Registers or pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services.
• Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization for all services that requires authorization, pre-certification, and/or referral.
• Coordinates with patients and scheduling departments to reschedule procedures until authorization or patient payment can be arranged.
• Updates schedule for cancellations, rescheduling, and other changes on an ongoing basis.
