Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC) seeks a Patient Access Services Representative (NY HELPS) for full-time day shift. This role handles patient registration, scheduling, and insurance verification to support hospital operations.

The NY HELPS program allows non-competitive appointments with potential future conversion to competitive status. On-site work required at ECMCC locations in Buffalo, NY.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 60 college credits or an Associate's Degree.
• Alternative: High school diploma and one year of clerical experience in patient admissions, registration, scheduling, or health insurance processing in healthcare.
• Alternative: High school diploma plus a Medical Assistant/Medical Administrative Assistant/Certified Medical Office Assistant certificate.

Responsibilities

• Pre-registers and registers patients for Emergency Room, clinics, inpatient, surgical and ancillary services using computer systems.
• Schedules patient appointments and inputs payer information into systems.
• Obtains insurance information and verifies eligibility; handles preauthorization and consent processes as needed.
• Uses telephone or online systems to verify third-party payers.
• Collects co-payments at registration and issues receipts.
• Identifies patients with no insurance for government programs or charity care; reviews eligibility.

Education

60 college credits or Associate's Degree

High school diploma + 1 year clerical healthcare experience

High school diploma + Medical Administrative/Office Assistant certificate
