Job summary

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center is seeking a patient access professional to manage registration, scheduling and payments at the front desk. You will verify demographics, insurance, collect co-pays, and secure necessary authorizations to support seamless patient care.

In addition to front-desk duties, you will function as a patient financial counselor when needed, guiding patients to available programs and coordinating with the financial navigator while maintaining professionalism and accuracy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in medical office.
• Knowledge of insurance benefits, authorization process and contracting.
• Must work independently with strong organizational and communication skills and meet deadlines.
• ICD-9/10 and CPT coding a plus.
• Medicare, Medicaid and private-payer practices and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Reception of patients, collect co-pay and deductibles due at time of service and verify authorization when applicable.
• Scheduling appointments, including follow-ups, diagnostics, treatments and patient access; obtain valid authorizations before services.
• Pre-Registration and registration of patients; verify demographics and insurance; collect payment.
• Coordinate with clinical staff to ensure authorizations are not missed; support access to care.
• Advise patients on programs and direct to financial navigator for assistance as needed.
• Other duties as assigned by manager.
