Job summary

North Mississippi Health Services is seeking a Patient Access Coordinator to support the organization’s financial health by handling insurance information, point of service collections, and financial arrangements through direct patient contact.

The role requires strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills to manage demographic and insurance data, resolve denials, and interface with internal and external stakeholders to promote timely patient flow and accurate billing.

Responsibilities

• Schedule/reschedule, pre-certify, check medical necessity, and pre-register patients for appointments, diagnostic tests, and outpatient procedures as ordered by referring providers
• Obtain necessary information required for scheduling, pre-certification, and pre-registration
• Obtain and verify patient demographics, insurance information/eligibility, and benefits
• Inform patients and/or clinical staff of proper preparation and instructions for tests ordered
• Maintain HIPAA compliance while obtaining confidential patient information
• Explain NMHS revenue cycle policies, estimates, charity plans and payment options to patients
• Provide bedside registration to collect insurance and consent forms for accurate medical record data entry compliant with CMS and regulators
• Ensure estimates to guarantors are provided for elective procedures and collections occur at pre-registration or point of service
• Administer ABNs when necessary and ensure accounts are financially secure prior to service
• Correct front-end errors to minimize denials and analyze trends to inform leadership
• Maintain familiarity with payer methodologies to ensure accurate estimates and communicate variances to leadership
• Develop strategies with the business office to ensure accurate estimates and transparency
• Assist in preparation of monthly error and collections reports
• Communicate effectively with staff and clients to provide excellent customer service
• Serve as liaison with payers to resolve front-end errors causing denials
• Identify trends and provide solutions to leadership
