Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to join the Bluffton Medical Pavilion team. This front‑line role ensures welcoming access, accurate registration, and smooth scheduling in a fast‑paced outpatient setting.

You will coordinate with scheduling, registration, and clinical staff, handle multi‑line calls, collect payments, and support patient communication with interpreters as needed. Full‑time or part‑time positions with flexible scheduling are available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution OR HS diploma/GED with required experience
• 2+ years of experience in a medical office, call center, or customer service
• 6 months MUSC Patient Access or 6 months related healthcare experience

Responsibilities

• Provide front desk coverage in a fast-paced outpatient setting
• Schedule appointments for internal and external referrals, including hospital and community providers
• Manage high-volume multi-line phone systems with professionalism and urgency
• Complete patient registration, verification, and documentation accurately
• Collect payments for clinical services and assist with billing inquiries
• Coordinate interpreter services to support patient communication needs
• Collaborate with clinical teams, schedulers, technologists, and referring offices to ensure smooth patient flow

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution OR
• High school diploma/GED with:
  • At least 2 years of experience in a medical office, call center, or customer service environment
  • OR at least 6 months of MUSC Patient Access experience
  • OR at least 6 months of related healthcare experience
