Job summary

The Patient Access Specialist at MUSC Health supports the Bluffton Medical Pavilion, a modern outpatient facility expanding access to high-quality care in the Lowcountry. You will be the first point of contact, coordinating front desk coverage and patient flow in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include scheduling referrals, handling multi-line phones, patient registration and payments, coordinating interpreter services, and collaborating with clinical teams to ensure a smooth patient

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in a medical office, call center, or customer service.
  • Alternative: 6+ months of MUSC Patient Access or healthcare experience.

  • Scheduling appointments for internal and external referrals, including hospital and community providers.
  • Managing high-volume multi-line phone systems with professionalism and urgency.
  • Completing patient registration, verification, and documentation accurately and efficiently.

  • Coordinating interpreter services to support patient communication needs.
  • Collaborating with clinical teams, schedulers, technologists, and referring offices to ensure smooth patient flow.
  • Supporting a positive patient experience through clear communication and service excellence.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution OR
  • High school diploma/GED with:
    • At least 2 years of experience in a medical office, call center, or customer service environment
    • OR at least 6 months of MUSC Patient Access experience
    • OR at least 6 months of related healthcare experience
Preferred Skills
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Experience with scheduling systems or electronic medical records
  • Ability to multitask in a high-volume environment
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and financial transactions
Work Environment & Benefits
