Sentara Healthcare Inc. is seeking a Patient Access Representative for the evening shift (2:30pm–11:00pm). The role handles patient registration, insurance verification, and scheduling while ensuring privacy and compliance standards are met.

The position involves collecting payments, explaining invoices, and providing first-point contact support to patients, families, and visitors in a community hospital setting.

Qualifications

• 2 years of Customer Service and/or Data Entry.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in lieu of two years of experience.
• Proficiency in Keyboarding.

Responsibilities

• Verify patient identity and select correct patient record during registration.
• Review schedules and physician orders to register the patient for the appropriate service.
• Explain and collect co-payments, deposits, and outstanding balances and complete transactions securely.
• Schedule, pre-admission, and discharge duties and provide updates to families in waiting areas.
• Greet patients and families and ensure they arrive to the correct service area at the right time.

Job description

Full Time, Evening shift- 2:30pm-11:00pm

As aPatient Access Representativewith Sentara, you will be responsible for all aspects of the patient registration process, including: verifying the patient identity and selecting the correct patient record, reviewing schedules and physician orders to register the patient for the appropriate service, scanning important documents such as insurance cards, ID's, Living Wills, and POAs and verifying and entering the patient's demographic and insurance information in the electronic health record. During the registration process, the Patient Access Rep will explain and complete complex regulatory and compliance documents and adhere to all applicable privacy and compliance standards. They also explain and collect co-payments, deposits, and outstanding balances and perform the transactions securely. In most areas, the Patient Access Rep is the first point of contact for patients and provides the first impression of Sentara. They greet patients and families, answer questions, and ensure the patients arrive to the appropriate service area at the right time. The Patient Access Rep may also perform scheduling, pre-admission, and discharge duties and provide supervision and patient information updates to families in waiting rooms.
