Description:

Accountability Objectives:

Responsible for performing the Patient Access process, including accurate registration, pre-registration, insurance verification, scheduling procedures/appointments, entering patient data, coordinating services, and informing patients/doctors about preparations and insurance requirements. Collaborates across departments to optimize equipment and facilities, prioritizes customer satisfaction, and maintains a professional demeanor.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification and Experience:

A. Education: High school diploma or GED required; courses in word processing and medical terminology preferred; college classes in related fields preferred.

B. Licensure / Certification: Healthcare Access Management certification preferred within one year.

C. Skills: Typing 30 wpm, computer proficiency, medical terminology knowledge, interpersonal skills, ability to work independently, and excellent customer service skills. Completion of relevant courses within 90 days of start is required.

D. Experience: At least 1 year in patient registration or related fields, or 6 months in emergency services; ICD-9-CM and CPT coding experience preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Interview patients/families for registration, entering demographic, clinical, and insurance data.
  • Verify insurance eligibility via phone or internet.
  • Schedule procedures across departments, securing necessary authorizations.
  • Coordinate hospital services, ensuring proper sequence and compliance with requirements.
  • Refer patients with no insurance or balances to Financial Counselors.
  • Inform patients/doctors about appointment preparations.
  • Independently troubleshoot scheduling and system issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality and provide excellent customer service.
  • Participate in meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform clerical tasks as needed and support revenue management activities.
  • Support equipment and electronic health record documentation.

Work Conditions:

  • Sit up to 100% for computer work.
  • Work weekends, holidays, and possibly overtime as needed.
  • Normal office environment.
