Description:

Accountability Objectives:

Responsible for performing the Patient Access process, completing accurate registration and pre-registration, insurance verification for eligibility, scheduling procedures/appointments for various departments, entering patient data, coordinating multiple services, and informing patients/doctors' offices about preparations and insurance requirements. Collaborates with multiple departments to utilize equipment and facilities effectively, prioritizing customer satisfaction with courteous and professional manners.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification, and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required; courses in word processing and medical terminology preferred; college classes in relevant fields are a plus.
  • Healthcare Access Management certification preferred within one year.
  • Ability to type 30 wpm, familiarity with computer systems, and passing medical terminology tests required.
  • Experience in patient registration, insurance verification, or related fields preferred; ICD-9-CM and CPT coding experience is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  1. Interview patients/families for admission and outpatient registration, entering necessary data.
  2. Verify insurance eligibility via phone or internet.
  3. Schedule procedures independently for all departments.
  4. Secure required authorizations for services.
  5. Understand and comply with hospital policies and regulations.
  6. Resolve scheduling conflicts and coordinate hospital services in proper sequence.
  7. Refer uninsured or outstanding balance patients to Financial Counselors.
  8. Inform patients/doctors about appointment preparations.
  9. Problem-solve scheduling issues and troubleshoot system problems.
  10. Maintain continuous scheduling service and produce reports while ensuring confidentiality.
  11. Provide excellent customer service and participate in meetings and quality improvement.
  12. Perform clerical tasks as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Work Conditions:

  • Sitting up to 100% using a computer terminal, typing, and answering phones.
  • Working weekends, holidays, and possibly overtime as needed.
  • Normal office environment.
