Job summary

University Hospital in Newark, NJ is seeking a Patient Access Representative to interview patients and complete timely arrivals and registrations for Inpatient, Outpatient, ED, and Pre-Registration settings.

You will enter accurate demographics into the hospital system, obtain signatures, and verify insurance precertifications for billing and medical records processing. Prior clerical experience and data entry skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Three (3) years of clerical experience in a physician’s office, hospital, or insurance company required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Understanding of Managed Care, Medicaid, and Charity Care guidelines preferred. Must be detail oriented and have excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of computers and data entry experience required.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and electronically input patient demographics and insurance information into the hospital system, verifying accuracy.
• Ensure efficient, accurate, and timely patient registrations and arrivals; interview patients professionally.
• Verify correct patient identity and check-in; ensure proper banding of patients.
• Obtain identification and insurance information; update the registration system as needed.
• Scan documents into the registration system.
• Verify insurance eligibility and obtain authorization or pre-certification as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

About The Role

The primary purpose of the Patient Access Representative position is to interview all patients in a professional and courteous manner. Completes efficient and timely patient arrivals and registration functions. This includes, but is not limited to, Inpatient, Outpatient, Emergency Department, and Pre-Registration. Electronically enters accurate patient demographic information into University Hospital computer system and obtain signatures on all required documentation. Confirms required insurance precertification, authorization and documentation is obtained for billing and medical record processing.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

• Obtains and electronically inputs patient demographics and insurance information into the hospital computer system, thoroughly verifying the information presented by the patient.
• Ensures efficient, accurate and timely patient registrations and arrivals. Interviews all patients in a professional and courteous manner.
• Ensures the correct patients arrived and are checked-in prior to banding or completing a task.
• Obtains identification and current insurance information. Updates the registration system upon obtaining additional information.
• Scans documents into the hospital registration system.
• Verifies patient’s insurance(s) eligibility to ensure reimbursement for services rendered at the hospital. Performs real time eligibility, Notice of Admission, and uses all other available on-line and manual systems to obtain authorization or pre-certification.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Compensation

In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is Probationary Rate$25.14 –Two (2) Year Rate $26.41. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs.
