Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is hiring a Patient Access Representative at RWJUH Hamilton Hospital in the Emergency Dept Access Service. The role focuses on accurate patient registration, insurance verification, and collecting payments to ensure a smooth intake process in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented with excellent communication, accuracy in typing, and the ability to multitask.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Preferred: medical insurance verification and authorization experience.
  • Epic experience preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Patient Access experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of registration, non-federal/federal billing regulations, and Charity Care preferred.
  • Medical terminology and computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients accurately and verify insurance information.
  • Collect applicable payments and ensure a seamless registration experience.
  • Coordinate with nursing and ancillary departments to support admissions.
  • Train registration staff and develop training tools or presentations.

Pay Range: $20.63 - $25.71 per hour

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

The Patient Access Representative plays a vital role in creating a positive first impression on our patients by delivering compassionate, patient-centered service. This position is responsible for accurately registering patients, verifying insurance, obtaining required documentation, collecting applicable payments and ensuring a seamless registration experience. The representative serves as the first point of contact for patients and families, providing exceptional customer service during stressful and urgent situations.

As a Patient Access Representative, a typical daymight include:
  • Responsible for coordinating and facilitating registration and admissions by obtaining pertinent demographic information, collecting accurate insurance information authorizations to financially clear outpatient hospital accounts
  • The ideal candidate must be detail oriented and promote patient satisfaction
  • Service-orientated background, good written and verbal communication skills and accurate typing ability
  • Demonstrates initiative and motivation in a role; proactively identifies and resolves problems in an appropriate manner and escalates issues to leadership when necessary
  • Reflects commitment to building a supportive work environment and maintains a positive attitude
  • Works closely and professionally with nursing and ancillary departments to foster a team environment.
  • Participate in training through the development of training tools, presentations at department in-service or staff meetings, or through the training of registration staff outside the patient access department
