Job summary

Trinity Health's Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital is seeking a Patient Access Representative to greet and register patients, verify insurance benefits, and secure necessary authorizations. The role also involves collecting patient financial responsibility and coordinating with physicians and staff to resolve revenue cycle issues.

Required are a HS diploma or equivalent, with preferred Associate degree, and at least 1 year in insurance verification or hospital front desk.

  • Familiarity with pre-certification, authorization and referrals.
  • Customer service oriented with professionalism.

Description

The primary function of the position is to greet, pre-register and/or register patients in a courteous and professional manner, verify insurance benefits and check for the necessity of pre-certification, authorization and referral. Perform medical necessity checks where needed. Secure patient signatures for required hospital forms and collection of patient’s financial responsibility when required. The position is also responsible for providing professional, quality customer service, timely resolution to customer problems, and coordination of services to all customers. The position functions to communicate revenue cycle related issues to patients, physicians, physician office staff and other hospital colleagues. This position rotates into various areas of patient access and may work a variety of shifts.

Requirements
  • HS diploma or equivalency
  • Associate degree (Preferred)
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in insurance verification and medical office/hospital customer service
  • Must have Outpatient Registration experience
  • HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA required within one (1) year of hire.
