Job summary

Trinity Health’s St. Mary Medical Center seeks a Patient Access Representative to manage outpatient, ER and inpatient registration, including upfront cash collection and insurance verification.

You will verify benefits, handle pre-certifications, and ensure patients meet financial requirements while delivering patient-focused service. The role includes rotating shifts, including ER, and collaborating with care teams.

Qualifications

• Associate degree preferred.
• Minimum 1 year experience in insurance verification and medical office/hospital customer service.
• Outpatient Registration experience required.
• HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Verifies insurance benefits and checks necessity of pre-certification, authorization and referral.
• Performs medical necessity checks where needed.
• Secures patient signatures for required hospital forms and collection of patient’s financial responsibility.
• Provides professional, quality customer service and timely resolution to customer problems.
• Communicates revenue cycle related issues to patients, physicians, and hospital staff.
• Rotates into various areas of Patient Access and may work ER shifts.

Patient Access Representative

Employment Type: Full-Time

Shift: Days, 9am-5:30pm with a every 6th week, Saturday rotation.

Location: St. Mary Medical Center

Summary

The patient access representative performs all outpatient, emergency room and inpatient registration functions, including up- front cash collections and insurance verification. Ensures that patients meet financial requirements, provides general information to hospital users, patients and families. Communicates effectively to service delivery areas to maximize patient flow and customer service and provides excellent patient focused customer service.

• Verifies insurance benefits and checks for the necessity of pre-certification, authorization and referral.
• Performs medical necessity checks where needed.
• Secures patient signatures for required hospital forms and collection of patient’s financial responsibility when required.
• Is responsible for providing professional, quality customer service, timely resolution to customer problems, and coordination of services to all customers.
• Functions to communicate revenue cycle related issues to patients, physicians, physician office staff and other hospital colleagues.
• Rotates into various areas of Patient Access and may work a variety of shifts including the ER.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degree (Preferred)
• Minimum one (1) year experience ininsurance verificationand medical office/hospital customer service
• Must have Outpatient Registration experience
• HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA required within one (1) year of hire.
