Job summary

Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City, NM is seeking a Patient Access Representative to greet and register patients, collect demographics and billing information, verify insurance, and obtain authorizations when required.

You will handle front-desk customer service, answer phones and switchboard, process transfers and discharges, maintain HIPAA confidentiality, and support other departments with clerical tasks; Spanish bilingual is preferred.

Qualifications

• Customer service experience required, with insurance billing preferred.
• Familiar with medical terminology and basic computer skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Registers patients accurately, timely and courteously with 95% data entry accuracy.
• Updates patient demographics and verifies insurance information.
• Obtains prior authorizations when required and communicates with departments for pending authorizations.
• Collects copays and deductibles; explains discounts per policy.
• Answers phones, transfers calls, and operates the central phone/alarm systems.
• Maintains confidentiality per HIPAA and provides front-line customer service to visitors and staff.
• Processes transfers and discharges as directed and coordinates with Radiology and other departments.
• Participates in staff meetings and on-call programs as assigned.
