Job summary

Shelby County Health Care Corporation is seeking a Patient Access Clerk to serve as the primary contact for patients in inpatient and outpatient clinics. The role handles registration, benefits checks, and co-pay collection to support accurate and timely care delivery.

The position requires high school completion, clerk/medical office training preferred, and at least two years of clerical or customer service experience in a medical setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required or preferred.
• Completion of a clerical or medical office program is preferred.
• At least 2 years of clerical, customer service, or related experience (medical office or admin services) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients upon arrival and verifies registration details.
• Verifies patient identity and address; checks eligibility and benefits.
• Collects co-pays and any outstanding balances; issues receipts.
• Enters charges and updates system; maintains cash drawer.
• Schedules follow-ups and assists with referrals and authorizations as needed.
• Maintains confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA and compliance policies.
