Job summary

Jackson Purchase Medical Center is seeking a Registrar to ensure accurate patient registration, verifying demographic and billing information in a timely manner. You will distribute forms, brief patients or families, and coordinate with admitting staff to secure placement and necessary documentation.

You will verify insurance benefits, obtain precertification when required, and determine payments (co-pays/deductibles) or refer to financial counselors.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Associates Degree preferred.
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and enters demographic, billing, and clinical information accurately and timely.
• Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members.
• Meets with patient or caregiver before or after admission to exchange necessary information and documentation.
• Provides explanation of process and addresses concerns and questions.
• Communicates with admitting physician's office, nursing unit staff, and/or other appropriate personnel regarding admission and exchange of information and placement.
• Verifies insurance benefits and obtains precertification/authorization as necessary.
• Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refers to financial counselors for follow up
