Job summary

GRMC Garrett Regional Medical Center is seeking a Registration Specialist-Patient Access for the Oakland, MD area. This part-time role handles patient intake, insurance information, and billing details while supporting scheduling and privacy practices.

The position requires strong communication, attention to detail, and ability to navigate high-volume workflows in a hospital setting. Training is provided, with opportunities for growth within WVU Health System.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.

Responsibilities

• Obtains demographic/billing/insurance information and enters into registration/billing systems.
• Completes pre-certifications and authorizations as needed.
• Prepares consent forms and obtains electronic signatures.
• Collects deposits, copayments, and patient liability payments and records payments.
• Prepares armband for patient identification.
• Balances daily receipts and cash drawer; follows system flags for accounts.
• Initiates screenings and gathers information for coverage; completes paperwork.
• Performs medical necessity checks and completes Advanced Beneficiary Notice as needed.
• Schedules/reschedules/cancels patients per hospital workflows.
• Checks order completeness and validates against scheduled services.
