Job summary

Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to handle registration, determine financial class, collect insurance details and schedule patient appointments. The role also includes symptom screening of visitors and contributing to department quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have at least one year of clerical experience, strong computer skills, and excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with a focus on accuracy and patient service.

Qualifications

• One year clerical experience.
• Experience utilizing computers in work environment.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Screens hospital visitors for symptoms and temperature to ensure safety.
• Assists visitors with questions and directs them to clinic/service locations.
• Reviews and updates patient accounts to ensure accurate information for claims and payments.
• Refers non-funded patients to Financial Counseling.
• Reviews eligibility to determine referrals and pre-certifications.
• Obtains referrals and pre-certifications as needed and notifies departments when payer hasn’t approved.
• Identifies problems and suggests solutions to the team.
• Informs patient of financial responsibility.
• Collects patient payments per cash collection policy.
• Initiates pre-registration and conducts interviews for patients with third party payers.
• Documents information and treatment authorization in patient accounting system.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
