Job summary

Optum is seeking a patient registration clerk for an Emergency Department setting in Chandler, AZ. The role involves greeting patients, collecting demographics and insurance details, and verifying coverage while handling payments in a fast-paced environment.

The position requires 1+ year of customer service experience, a High School Diploma, and availability 8:00am–4:30pm Monday–Friday with the first two weeks of orientation. Overtime and weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED.
• 1+ years of customer service experience in hospital, office setting, customer service setting, or phone support.
• Ability to work 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday.
• Ability to workday shift hours during the duration of new hire orientation (approximately the first 2 weeks).

Responsibilities

• Communicates directly with patients and/or families to complete the registration process by collecting demographics, health information, and verifying insurance eligibility/benefits.
• Uses computer systems to enter, access, or verify patient data in real-time with accuracy.
• Gathers clinical information and processes referrals, pre-certification, pre-determination, and pre-authorizes according to insurance requirements.
• Verifies insurance coverage, benefits, and creates price estimates; reverifications as needed.
• Collects patient co-pays and discusses out-of-pocket financial obligations with patients.
• Identifies outstanding balances from prior visits and attempts to collect amounts due.
• Responds to patient and caregiver inquiries with compassion and respect.
• Generates and reviews patient data reports, following up on inconsistencies as needed.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of ED registration requirements.
