Job summary

UnitedHealth Group in Lafayette, CO is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to ensure smooth patient registration, collect demographics, insurance information, approvals, and entries for billing, while supporting efficient patient flow and accurate data capture.

You will greet patients, answer phones, verify eligibility, determine patient payment responsibility, obtain signatures, and escalate issues to leadership as needed, all while complying with regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to work 40 hours/week according to the stated schedule.
• Experience with Microsoft Office products preferred.
• Experience in customer service, medical records, or hospital registration is beneficial.
• Understanding of insurance policies and procedures, and basic math for payments.

Responsibilities

• Interview patients to obtain demographic, billing, and insurance information and complete all registration steps.
• Locate and process provider requisitions.
• Determine insurance eligibility.
• Determine patient payment responsibility and collect payment on insured and self-pay accounts.
• Obtain signatures for necessary paperwork including financial agreements and medical release.
• Demonstrate knowledge of EMTALA regulations.
• Maintain proficiency on necessary software modules.
• Refer complex issues to leadership when needed.
