Tampa Family Health Centers (TFHC) is seeking a Financial Counselor in Tampa, FL to determine insurance eligibility, perform financial screenings, and guide patients through payment options. The role collaborates with front office, clinical, and support teams to improve access to care and maintain compliance.

The Financial Counselor will help patients navigate billing, assist with payment plans, and ensure documentation is handled in a HIPAA-compliant manner.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in healthcare financial counseling, insurance verification, or patient access preferred.

Responsibilities

• Screen patients for insurance coverage and verify income eligibility.
• Complete financial re-screens and update demographics and pay categories in the system.
• Review uninsured patients and establish appropriate payment plans.
• Obtain insurance authorizations and coordinate with registration staff.
• Provide patients with required financial documentation and correspondence.
• Ensure sliding fee scale patients complete required acknowledgements.
• Coordinate emergency visit authorizations as needed.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient confidentiality.
• Support front office operations during slower periods.
• Recall patients for required screenings based on pay plan guidelines.
• Participate in team meetings and support TFHC’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
