Job summary

Blanchard Valley Health System in Findlay, OH is seeking a detailed-oriented patient access representative responsible for accurate registration, benefits verification, and handling at‑service discussions.

You will assist patients with financial screening, explain options like Medicaid and charity care, collect copays, and collaborate with multiple departments to ensure a smooth, respectful patient experience while maintaining policy compliance.

Qualifications

• Exceptional customer service skills required.
• Data entry and/or PC experience required.
• Medical terminology coursework or knowledge required.
• Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.
• Ability to address age-specific patient needs and growth/development knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Register/pre-register and admit properly identified patients; verify insurance eligibility.
• Educate and assist patients who may qualify for assistance (Medicaid, HCAP, Charity).
• Generate patient estimates and collect copays and balances; explain payment options.
• Conduct medical necessity screening for Medicare patients; obtain ABN signatures as required.
• Complete general forms (consent, HIPAA notices, Surprise Billing Act, IMM, MOON, etc.).
• Perform QA on accounts from other departments and provide feedback.
• Gather data for scheduling patient appointments.
• Handle bucket process during 3rd shift in ER discharge office.
• Stay informed on statutes/regulations affecting collections and receivables.
• Liaise with patients/families to resolve problems and explain procedures and benefits.
• Participate in training and mentorship to support staff development.
• Problem-solve and assist all customer groups as needed.
• Perform duties in alignment with the mission and values of Blanchard Valley Health System.
