Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist at Zarzamora to serve as a liaison between patients, payers and hospital teams. You will obtain and verify demographics, secure out-of-pocket responsibility, and maximize hospital reimbursement.

You will handle registrations, insurance verification, data entry, signatures, and medical records, while delivering excellent customer service and ensuring EMTALA/HIPAA compliance in a fast-paced setting, including day and swing shifts with weekends.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting, preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience, strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all regulations applicable to Admissions and Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships with patients and families.
• Identify and triage patients upon arrival to protect patient safety.
• Answer calls professionally, record messages, and communicate to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents as required.
• Enter complete and accurate demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor/plan in the patient accounting system.
• Obtain necessary insurance authorizations where applicable.
• Pursue collections at the time of service in a customer-service oriented manner.
• Scan and maintain registration and clinical documents in the system.
• Coordinate transfer of patients to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians, and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and logs for patients, payments, transfers, and admissions.
• Maintain visitor/vendor log and keep front desk area orderly.
